OBITUARY - (as recorded in Swindon Advertiser 1939)

A popular employee of the G.W.R. Swindon works, Mr Thomas George Dunford, 6 Iffley Road, Swindon, died on 13 August after a short illness. Mr Dunford had lived in Swindon for the last 40 years and was employed in the A.E. shop of the Loco Dept as brass storesman. For 28 years he was a memeber of the Transport and General Workers Union, and during this time served as delegate to the Railway Federation Of Trade Unions. He was chairman of 3/135 branch for the last five years.

In politics he was Labour and served as secratary for West Ward. His enthusiasm and activity caused him to serve the various committees from time to time. 'Joe', as he was known, never refused a helping hand , and nothing was too much for him in trying to lighten the burden of his working pals.
