NAME:

BORN:

DIED:

Evelyn 'Nellie' Dunford was born in 1902 and sadly died of diptheria at the age of just seven.

It seems she was named Nellie by Henry and Ann in honour of the daughter of their son (Thomas) who was also named Neliie and died in the same year that Henry and Ann's Nellie was born (1902).

It is believed that it was the job of the children in the village top collect water from the local river as there was no running water in the cottages. They were supposed to collect the water from the river at a position that was above where the cows drank in the adjoining fields. However they were sometimes known to collect the water down-stream and this is what could have led to Ellen contracting diptheria.

Nellie was taken up to Great Ormond Street hospital where she passed away. Her body was brought home in her coffin by train.
