Bert Harvey at daughter Laura Harvey's wedding
Bert was born in Cricklade in 1902 to William and Laura Augusta Harvey (nee Lewis). Sadly Laura died in December the same year.
By 1911, William was married to Amelia (of Pear Tree, Derby) and the family was living at 3 Compton St, Holmewood, Chesterfield, where William was working as an 'above ground labourer' at a local colliery.
Sadly, Amelia also died young in 1912. William and his young son Bert relocated back to Wiltshire (Purton) and in 1915 William married Sarah Ann Alice Elizabeth (nee Cooper) on 18th Sept 1915 in Cirencester. In the same year, William was drafted into WWI and saw service in India and South Africa as a driver.
William died 5th Dec 1928 having suffered cancer of the brain accelerated by an accident where he was hit by a motorcycle whilst riding his bicycle. He died at 2.40am after an operation at Roundway Hospital, Devizes. He was living at 70 Bruce Street, Swindon, at the time.
